Today is International Women's Day

Did you know that today, March 8 - is International Women's Day? I didn't but when I found out it occurred to me that so many of the iconic images we women admire come from literature, a lot of whom are from books we read as children. Think about how different our lives would be without Anne of Green Gables, Little House on the Prairie, Nancy Drew, The Little Princess, The Secret Garden, The American Girls Collections, and Hermione Granger. These strong, intelligent, industrious young women have given us role models and hours of enjoyment!  Click to buy Barefoot!
I want to help you give the young ladies in your life some wonderful new and re-defined characters to admire. There are quite a few Barefoot Books collections for young ladies to love!

The Barefoot Book of Princesses This is one of my favorite collections. There are re-tellings of classic fairy tales like the Princess and the Pea and Sleeping Beauty. In addition there are exciting tales of strong, capable young women from around the world. This incredibly illustrated collection is a wonderful introduction to some brand new princesses for the young ladies in your life to grow-up with.

The Real Princess: A Mathemagical Tale Practice your math skills while enjoying this quirky take on "The Princess and the Pea." The King and Queen and their three sons are on the search for a real princess, but it is only the Queen who knows the secret. After the story, there is an opportunity for readers to test their counting skills with fun number games. Book with CD edition includes story read by actree Juliet Stevenson.

The Princess and the White Bear  Ride along with the beautiful princess and the majestic white bear on a voyage in the snowy north. When the young princess inadvertently betrays the mysterious white bear, she must prove her loyalty and strength through a series of trying tasks, in order to regain her lost chance at happiness. Book with CD editions include story read by actress Miranda Richardson.

These are just a few of the many exciting titles for your family to love! Please visit my Barefoot Books site to find books, games, and music for all the little ones in your life!
